What exactly is a Smartwatch?

 

Smartwatches are no longer geeky rectangle shaped "thingies". They've evolved quite a bit recently and can not only be a useful tool, they can also be quite a fashion statement. Some pretty big name watch companies are now making pretty nice smart watches that are pieces of art. There's also a more reasonable range like the Asus Zenwatch 3, Huawei Watch or the Samsung Gear 3. Smartwatches basically connect to a phone and mirror a lot of information that the phone carries. They do have some abilities on their own however. They can detect motion, Altitude and GPS location (depending on the model of course). There's even standalone watches that can make phone calls without a host phone nearby. It's a long topic but here's a good article for starters:
